Disabled spy satellite threatens Earth

WASHINGTON - A large U.S. spy satellite has lost power and could hit the Earth in late February or March, government officials said Saturday.

The satellite, which no longer can be controlled, could contain hazardous materials, and it is unknown where on the planet it might come down, they said. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the information is classified as secret.

"Appropriate government agencies are monitoring the situation," said Gordon Johndroe, a spokesman for the National Security Council, when asked about the situation after it was disclosed by other officials. "Numerous satellites over the years have come out of orbit and fallen harmlessly. We are looking at potential options to mitigate any possible damage this satellite may cause."

Just another loose cannon result courtesy of people helping in the running of our country. Funny how they give us bits and pieces and the rest is always 'classified' lmao.

Lets just hope for the best, that it burns up on reentry.

Someone call Superman, he'll knock it into the sun!

Or how about the man of steel just makes sure it hits the white house.:D

But if that can't happen the best hope is it will hit water somewhere as the earth is 70% covered in water.

I was reading something recently about all the space junk orbiting around at tens of thousands of miles an hour and that thousands of items are being tracked.

A piece of Skylab came down in 1979, and the US Government was fined $400 for littering! That is great!

A picture of the piece and story here;

I have heard the same lot of space junk ,a hazard to navigation lol.I was thinking of a thread I had on how droughts might cause some nuke plants to halt operations and someone suggested we should send nuke waste into space. That would be a great way to introduce ourselves to ET if it should ever get somewhere there was life. They would be like those SOB's,track that shit back to its launch point and then aim our death ray there.

Contract the PRC . . .

They'll blow it up ! :)

IIRC - There's laser technology in the making, if it isn't already established,
which can / could power down orbiting relay stations (satellites).

Stay tuned for REAL Starwars !! PRC is on the cutting edge . . . thank you very much . . .

The author of the book said cost and technology were against a US space system proposed by Reagan, but if it could be pulled off, faced a constant danger of flying debris.

I agree, we should be safe then. My penis once burned up on re-entry and it no longer causes any damage. :dunno:

The title of this thread is misleading. The Earth is not threatened by the satellite. Maybe some people who might have the bad luck to get hit by it (the odds of which are extremely small) are threatened but the Earth is not. It will not even notice it and will continue orbiting the sun for millions of years.

lol land debris so i can sell it on ebay! :p
